Rules & Eligibility

Rules
  • One application per chapter may be submitted to the state.
  • Applications must emphasize activities from the immediate past membership year, but may include additional relevant details.
  • Completed applications must be received by the State office by November 30, 2022.
  • The applicant’s chapter must have submitted dues, a current roster, and a program of work on appropriate forms by November 1.
  • Applications not following these guidelines will be rejected.
  • Award recipients must be present in person at the 2023 Awards Banquet on January 14, 2023 in Huntsville, TX, to receive any monetary awards.
Eligibility
  • The applicant must be an active, paid member in good standing and have been a member for at least two years.
  • State winners are eligible to reapply only after five years.
  • Applicants for an individual recognition award (Sundowner, Family of the Year, or Star Young Farmer) are not eligible to apply for any other individual recognition award in the same year.

Award Criteria

  • Sundowner Award:

    • Recipient earns less than 50% of their annual net income from agriculture.
    • Ideal for individuals engaged in agriculture activities “after hours” and weekends.
  • Star Young Farmer/Agribusiness Award:

    • Recipient earns more than 50% of their annual net income from an agricultural-related career.
  • Outstanding Member Award:

    • Honors members who exemplify and promote the ideals of the Texas Young Farmers Association and actively contribute to the agriculture industry.
  • Young Farmer Newcomer Award:

    • Recognizes first or second-year members who have shown significant participation at both the state level and within their local chapter.
  • Family of the Year Award:

    • Honors a family unit (not necessarily traditional husband/wife—could be siblings, parent/child) that promotes the ideals of the association, supports the agriculture industry, and exemplifies community involvement and traditional family values.
  • Outstanding Chapter Award:

    • Based on chapter achievements from September 1 to August 31 of the previous membership year.
    • Key Areas of Emphasis (in order of importance):
      1. Educational: Activities that provide information or training benefiting members or students (e.g., sponsoring students to attend conferences, hosting educational meetings, running children’s barnyards).
      2. Community Service: Chapter-sponsored (or co-sponsored) projects that serve the community and where the chapter is clearly recognized as a sponsor.
      3. Leadership: Activities aimed at developing the leadership abilities of members, including participation in conferences, conventions, and contests, where the individual represents the Young Farmer chapter.
      4. Recreational: Events organized for member entertainment and fellowship.

Notes

  • Awards will be presented at the 2023 Awards Banquet (January 14, 2023, Huntsville, TX) during the dinner beginning at 6:00 p.m.
  • Attendance is required to receive monetary awards.
